Eid Al-Fitr 2024 Event

احتفال الجمعية بعيد الفطر في ماينز المانيا

In the week following Eid al-Fitr 2024, which fell on April 20, members of the Sudanese community in the Rhein-Main region gathered at Al-Tawba Mosque in Mombach, Mainz, answering the invitation of the Social Office of the German-Sudanese Association | Rhein-Main to celebrate the blessed occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

At the mosque entrance, a group of Sudanese girls welcomed guests in elegant, specially tailored Islamic gowns. Their role went beyond greeting; they offered gifts to everyone, young and old alike — a gesture that set the tone for a celebration distinguished by refinement and grace.

Of course … The amazing Sudanese grills

The timing of the celebration, scheduled several days after Eid, proved fortunate, as it coincided with the weekend. This allowed participants to enjoy the event free from the exhaustion of fasting and with the ability to share meals during the day. True to Sudanese tradition, food was not a minor detail but a central element reflecting Sudanese hospitality. Women of the community prepared a variety of delicious dishes, adding warmth and intimacy to the gathering.

Eid-gathering … the true spirit of Eid

The event’s aim went beyond celebration. It sought to recreate the atmosphere of Eid as it is cherished in Sudan and other Muslim countries, compensating for the absence of the vibrant festivities usually found there. Such gatherings provide a rare chance for families and friends to connect, especially given the demanding pace of life in Germany, the distances separating communities, and the fact that many families raise their children in an environment detached from their cultural roots.

The Social Office's speech

During the celebration, Dr. Wafaa Abdelazim, Head of the Social Office, delivered a short speech. She welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of such events in strengthening community ties and spreading a spirit of love and solidarity — values Sudan needs more than ever today. She assured that the Association would continue to fulfill its role and remain present at every significant occasion.
